The city of Avellino is returning to host, after five years, the Volleyball Italian National Team.
Regardless the kind of sports, the attendance of the Italian National Team is always particularly charming.
For the city of Avellino this is a very important occasion that will allow several volleyball fans in our province to see their favorites.
Moreover, the decision of the Italian Volleyball Federation to stake on our city is a reason of pride for all the working people who are always engaged in the promotion of this kind of sports that boasts a lot of practising.
The arrival of the National Team gives a prize also to the local team that this year has played a big tournament in B1 division. It has contributed in filling the stands in the Competition Hall Pala Del Mauro and has rejoiced for the achievements of the coach Narducci players.
With the World League, the city of Avellino confirms its ability and quality skills also in the international field as well as its receptiveness and hospitality.
For one day our city will be in the international spotlights. I am sure that, as already happened in the past for such circumstances, we will be able once again to show, all together, the sportsmanship and the warmth of the Irpinia’s people.
    Giuseppe Galasso
    Mayor of Avellino
It’s with my great satisfaction that such an important international event will be hosted by our city. The challenge between Italy and USA is a real classic for the international volleyball and obviously it is reason for all of us of pride that the city of Avellino will be the suitable setting for one of the best moment of the 2007 World League.
Avellino and the whole Irpinia boast a great volleyball tradition and I wish that soon some young could wear the shirt of the Italian National Team.
Above all, and starting from this year, the young movement has grown up with talented people who have appeared into the limelight of the first team and dream, one day, to wear that shirt which is the desired goal of those practicing an high level sport.
As councilor of the Sport in the Municipality of Avellino, but firstly as supporter of the Italian National Team, I would like to say “in bocca la lupo” to the Azzurri, hoping that our city would bring luck to the Delegation, as well as give hospitality other international events in the next future.

    Info about the city
It’s a chief town of the Region Campania (inhabitants city state 54.000, ihabitants province 435.000) and it’s situated in a rich woody valley, the green Irpinia. The city has a modern appearance, and it is still preserving a little medieval group.
The province of Avellino was lived since ancient time. The area was controlled by the Osci (XII-XI b.C.), by the Etruschi (VII-VI b.C.) and by the Sanniti; in spite of their strong resistance, Romans invaded the territory in a progressive way after the three wars of Sanniti (from 343 to 290 b.C.). After attempts to rebellion, the inhabitants were forced to submit to Rome. On VI Century a.C. Avellino was invaded by the Goti and during the Middle Age by the Longobardi, the Normanni, the Svevi, the Angioini and the Aragonesi. Starting from the middle of 1300, Avellino was dominated by the Spanish and in particular from the Caracciolo. Thanks to this family, the city became both a cultural and art centre. Recently the city is taking again his development, after its isolation due to the unity of Italy, wars and earthquakes
