May 27 to July 3, various cities Twelve teams distributed in three pools of four teams play in a home and away Round Robin Tournament:
Pool A: Brazil, Venezuela, Japan, Portugal
Pool B : Italy, Cuba, Bulgaria, France
Pool C: Serbia & Montenegro, Greece, Argentina, Poland
Six rounds for each team over 6 week-ends
Three rounds at home – three rounds away
Two matches each week-end (Friday and/or Saturday and/or Sunday) against the same team. Twelve matches for each team. Total of 72 matches for the preliminary phase.
The ranking of the teams per pool will be determined according to the results of all matches won and lost during the Intercontinental Round. The best classified team from each group qualifies for the final round.
(In case of a tie, as a test during the 2005 season, the points ratio will determine the classification).

July 8 to 10, Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro
Four teams play in a 3-day tournament with a total of 6 matches. The organizer of the Final Round will qualify automatically for the Final Round.
Should the organizer be first ranked of its pool, the 2nd ranked team of this pool will take part in the Final. The ranking will be determined according to the results of all matches won and lost during the Intercontinental Round.
